About Stick Agate

Stick Agate, also known as "Needle Agate", is a formation of agate that comes from mines in Ankara, Turkey. This agate often features stick-like formations surrounded by agate (which mostly comprises of Chalcedony). This occurs when agate fills a cavity within a rock that already contains mineral formations throughout. In the case of these stick agates from Turkey, the agate formed as a pseudomorph after aragonite and/or sagenite crystals. In some cases, these aragonite crystals form as hollow tubes that, when polished, contain agate and/or druzy quartz within.

Agate is a variegated class of chalcedony, usually exhibiting coloured bands or other

markings. Some agate is not patterned.

Chalcedony is considered as a member of the quartz family. It is either transparent, translucent, or opaque. It occurs as stalactites, in botryoidal form and in the lining of cavities of rocks. It occasionally contains a small amount of opal.

Some of the many types of chalcedony are agate, bloodstone, chrysoprase, carnelian, chert, flint, jasper, onyx, sardonyx, touchstone, and petrified wood; the following properties apply to these stones as well as to the remaining forms of chalcedony.

It was used as a sacred stone by the Native American Indians, promoting stability within the ceremonial activities of the tribes. It has successfully been used to provide a pathway for receiving thought transmissions.
