About Black Obsidian
Black Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass formed from rapidly cooled lava with high silica content (approximately 70% or more). Its deep, mirror-like sheen and smooth texture have made it prized for both ornamental and metaphysical use since ancient times. Unlike crystalline minerals, Obsidian lacks a defined crystal structure, giving it an amorphous, glassy appearance and conchoidal fracture when broken.
This stone is typically jet-black, although it may include subtle variations or sheens—such as mahogany tones, silver flecks, or even iridescent rainbows—caused by the presence of trace elements, gas bubbles, or magnetite inclusions. It has a vitreous lustre and measures around 5–5.5 on the Mohs scale, making it softer than most crystals but excellent for carvings, spheres, scrying mirrors, and protective tools.
Black Obsidian is found in regions with volcanic activity, including Mexico, the United States (notably Oregon, California, and Arizona), Iceland, Japan, Italy, and parts of Central and South America. Some of the finest specimens come from Mexico, where it was sacred to ancient Mesoamerican cultures.

Healing with Black Obsidian
♥ Protection ♥ Truth ♥ Shadow Work ♥ Emotional Release ♥ Energetic Shielding ♥ Grounding ♥ Clarity ♥ Psychic Cleansing ♥ Strength
Black Obsidian is a powerful grounding and protective stone, known as the “Stone of Truth” or the “Mirror Stone” due to its ability to reflect and reveal the shadow self. It acts like a spiritual vacuum cleaner, drawing out negativity, hidden emotions, and energetic debris from the aura and subconscious.
This stone resonates deeply with the Root Chakra, anchoring energy firmly into the Earth and helping to dispel fears, doubts, and emotional blockages. It is especially useful during periods of intense change, emotional upheaval, or spiritual awakening, when old patterns must be faced and cleared.
Black Obsidian is an ideal companion for shadow work, inner healing, and deep soul retrieval. It helps uncover unconscious behaviours, trauma, and buried wounds—bringing them to the surface with unflinching honesty so that they can be transformed. For those ready to “do the work,” it offers incredible strength, insight, and spiritual courage.
Emotionally, it is grounding and stabilising, cutting through confusion and self-deception. It helps release emotional ties or cords to toxic relationships, environments, or patterns that no longer serve your growth. It’s particularly helpful for empaths and sensitive individuals who need strong energetic boundaries and psychic protection.
In energetic healing, Black Obsidian is a master protector. It forms a psychic shield around the user, repelling negative entities, intrusive thoughts, and lower vibrations. It is often used to clear haunted spaces, protect against spiritual attack, or support ceremonial energy work.
It is highly effective in banishing spells, cord-cutting rituals, and personal purification practices. Many healers and energy workers use Black Obsidian to cleanse and realign the aura or to draw out stagnant energy and emotional congestion from the body.
In manifestation, it helps you set strong, realistic goals based on self-honesty rather than illusion. It supports personal accountability and motivates grounded action—particularly when clearing financial blocks, ancestral karma, or deep-seated fears.
Black Obsidian is also used in divination. Ancient cultures carved it into scrying mirrors and crystal balls for insight, truth-seeking, and communication with the unseen. It remains a powerful tool for modern seers, witches, and mystics working with clairvoyance or spirit guides.
Black Obsidian is believed to support detoxification and deep energetic cleansing of the body. It is often used to aid the digestive system, especially where issues are tied to suppressed emotions or trauma held in the gut. Some practitioners use it to relieve joint pain, arthritis, and cramps—particularly when caused by stress or energetic blockages.
This stone is associated with enhancing circulation and supporting the reproductive organs, especially the lower back, pelvic area, and base chakra regions. It may also help in clearing energetic stagnation that contributes to fatigue, stress, or hormonal imbalance.
Because it assists with releasing mental and emotional tension, Black Obsidian is considered helpful for relieving symptoms of anxiety, fear, or intrusive thoughts. It’s best used in grounding meditations, placed at the feet, or held during emotional release sessions to centre and stabilise the nervous system.
