About Red Moss Agate

Red Moss Agate is a rarer and more fiery-hued variation of Moss Agate, a member of the Chalcedony family (a form of microcrystalline Quartz, SiO₂). Like traditional Moss Agate, it contains dendritic inclusions—branch-like mineral patterns—but these inclusions are rich in iron oxides or hematite, giving them a reddish, rust, or coppery tone instead of the typical green.

These striking inclusions, often resembling coral, flames, or autumnal foliage, are suspended within a translucent to milky Quartz matrix. Each piece of Red Moss Agate is unique, appearing like a snapshot of a crimson forest, a Martian landscape, or a fossilised fire captured in stone. It holds the same Mohs hardness of 6.5–7, making it suitable for everyday wear and healing use.

Red Moss Agate is sourced from the same geological environments as other Moss Agates, but quality specimens are more limited. Notable sources include India, the USA (especially Oregon and Montana), Australia, Indonesia, and Brazil. Indonesian Red Moss Agate in particular is celebrated for its intricate inclusions and vivid contrasts.
