Labradorite is a stunning feldspar mineral renowned for its captivating play of colours, known as labradorescence—a vivid iridescent flash of blues, greens, golds, and sometimes purples that appear to shimmer across the stone’s surface as it catches the light. Its chemical composition is (Na,Ca)(Al,Si)₄O₈, part of the plagioclase feldspar group, and it crystallises in the triclinic system.

This crystal is predominantly found in Canada (especially Labrador, where it was first discovered), Finland (where the variety known as Spectrolite is found), Madagascar, Russia, and Norway. Labradorite’s hardness is approximately 6–6.5on the Mohs scale, making it suitable for jewellery and carvings, though care is advised due to its layered structure.
