Desert Rose is a stunning natural formation composed primarily of gypsum (calcium sulfate dihydrate) or sometimes barite, crystallised into intricate rosette-like clusters that resemble blooming flowers or delicate sand dunes. These formations occur when mineral-rich water evaporates in arid desert environments, leaving behind these layered, sandy-hued crystals.

Desert Rose is typically found in desert regions around the world, with notable sources including the Sahara Desert (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia), the deserts of Mexico, the southwestern United States, and Saudi Arabia. Its colours range from pale creamy white to sandy beige and warm reddish-brown tones, reflecting the mineral content and desert soils where it forms. It rates a 2 on the Mohs hardness scale, so it is quite soft and fragile.
