About Sugilite
Sugilite is a rare and powerful silicate mineral known for its rich, purple-to-magenta hues and strong spiritual energy. It is composed of potassium, sodium, lithium, iron, manganese, and silicate (chemical formula: KNa₂(Fe,Mn,Al)₂Li₃Si₁₂O₃₀), often containing black veins of manganese or reddish inclusions. Sugilite ranges from opaque to translucent and ranks between 5.5 and 6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale.
Discovered in 1944 by Japanese petrologist Ken-ichi Sugi (for whom the mineral is named), Sugilite is found primarily in South Africa, with smaller deposits in Japan, Canada, and India. The most sought-after pieces are vivid grape-purple with minimal black matrix.
