Crystal Knowledge - Garnet (General)

About Garnet

Garnet is a powerful and ancient gemstone belonging to a group of silicate minerals that share a similar crystal structure but vary in composition and colour. The most common variety is Almandine Garnet, which ranges from deep red to reddish-brown, though Garnets can also be green, orange, purple, or even black. The name “Garnet” comes from the Latin granatum, meaning pomegranate, due to its resemblance to the fruit’s rich red seeds.

With a Mohs hardness of 6.5 to 7.5, Garnet is a durable stone found in metamorphic rocks and is widely sourced from India, Sri Lanka, Brazil, USA, Madagascar, and Russia.
