About Emerald
Emerald is a rich green variety of the beryl family (Be₃Al₂Si₆O₁₈), coloured by trace amounts of chromium and/or vanadium. Revered for millennia as a symbol of love, wisdom, and rebirth, Emerald’s deep green hue has made it one of the most prized and well-known gemstones throughout history.
Major sources of Emerald include Colombia, Zambia, Brazil, Pakistan, and Russia. Colombian Emeralds are particularly famed for their deep, vivid green and high clarity. Emerald has a Mohs hardness of 7.5 to 8, but due to natural inclusions (often called “jardin”), it can be more fragile than its rating suggests.
