About Charoite
Charoite is a rare and visually captivating silicate mineral known for its swirling patterns of violet, lavender, lilac, and black. Its fibrous, pearly lustre and chatoyant shimmer give it an almost dreamlike appearance. Charoite is composed of a complex structure of hydrated potassium, calcium, and silicate, often occurring alongside minerals like aegirine, tinaksite, and feldspar. It rates between 5 and 6 on the Mohs hardness scale.
Discovered only in the 1940s and recognised as a distinct mineral in the 1970s, Charoite is found exclusively in Russia, along the Chara River in the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), which gives the stone its name.
